Senator Rand Paul has announced that he will be sending a letter to the Department of Justice asking for a criminal referral for Dr. Fauci for lying to Congress.
This comes after a heating exchange (see video below) at a Senate hearing between Senator Paul and Dr. Fauci over Wuhan lab funding.
Viruses that in nature only infect animals were manipulated in the Wuhan Lab to ‘gain the function’ of infecting humans.
Rand Paul rattled the embattled Dr. Fauci when he pointed out that it is a crime to lie to Congress, a crime which is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
Paul reminded Fauci of a previous statement he had made before congress in which he stated:
“The NIH has not ever and does not now fund Gain-of Function research in the Wuhan Institue of Virology,”
Senator Paul then asked Dr Fauci if he wished to retract his statement.
Dr. Fauci, trembling from anger, fear, or both, stammered:
“Senator Paul, I have never lied before the congress, and I do not retract that statement.”
Senator Paul then read from the NIH’s own document, which defined gain-of-function in this way,
“Scientific research that increases the transmissibility among mammals, is ‘gain of function.’”
Referring to the work done in the Wuhan Lab, Senator Paul the said:
“They took animal viruses that only occur in animals, and they increased their transmissibility to humans.”
